CONTAINED STORAGE VENTILATION CSV CABINET
APPLICATIONS Clyde-Apac CSV safe storage cabinets are designed to contain laboratory chemical fumes (including formalin) and other odours given off by specimen jars and bottles during storage.
OPERATION Recirculating CSV modules utilise a direct drive fan that draws ambient air into the cabinet from the air intake that is located under the viewing window. Air passes through the perforated storage shelves and into the exhaust filter system, consisting of two stages of filtration, prior to being recirculated into the room. The first stage prefilter arrests > 90% of particles 5 micron and larger. The final activated carbon filter incorporates carbon granules with a selected chemical impregnation to optimise the arrestance of specific vapours. Specific impregnations are available for the handling of a wide range of contaminants. The contaminants include: - Formaldehyde and glutaraldehyde - Alkaline odours - Ammonia and amines - Inorganic acids and acidic odours - H2S and mercaptans - HCN Cabinets operate on single-phase 240V, 50 Hz power via a 10A outlet. A low voltage touch control panel with function status indicated by LEDs is located on the front of the cabinet. An audible alarm indicates low air flow within the cabinet. Ducted models are designed to work with building ser- vices and can be fitted with additional filtration systems.

ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY FOR SAFE HANDLING OF CYTOTOXIC DRUGS
CG2010 CYTOGARD CYTOTOXIC DRUG SAFETY CABINETS
APPLICATIONS
Cytotoxic drug safety cabinets are defined in Australian Standard AS2252.5 as the primary barrier against exposure to aerosols that are produced in the preparation, manipulation and dispensing of cytotoxic drugs. Many of these drugs are known to be mutagens and are suspected of being carcinogens and teratogens. Recent work involving prions has proven that exposure may result in effects that are insidious and may not manifest themselves for some years. The requirements for protection involve the following: • Protection of cabinet users and other staff from exposure to aerosols or vapours which may be generated in the preparation, manipulation, and dispensing of cytotoxic drugs; • Protection of drug products, so that they may be prepared in an environment which is essentially free from particulate and biological contamination; • Protection of cabinet maintenance personnel from the residue of drug particles which can contaminate filters, fans and other mechanical components.
DESCRIPTION
CG2010 CytogardTM drug safety cabinets are designed and manufactured in Australia in three nominal widths – a 900mm, 1200mm and 1800mm – and fully comply with all requirements of Australian Standard AS2252.5. Cytotoxic cabinets are necessary for operator and product protection, in addition to the safe guards provided by an effective air barrier and Clyde-Apac Microseal TM HEPA filter technology, CG2010 series is also equipped with a carbon filter to remove harmful vapours that may be released during the compounding process. CG2010 series are essential for the protection of personnel, product and the environment.
AES Environmental maintains an ISO 9001:2008 quality management system to ensure process and product conformance.
AUSTRALIAN STANDARDS
CG2010 CytogardTM drug safety cabinets are designed and manufactured to comply with all requirements of Australian Standard AS2252.5. Each cabinet is factory-certified by a NATA Accredited laboratory to meet the specified performance requirements. These cabinets may also be used where the handling of other drugs and chemical requires both containment and aseptic manipulation. Cytotoxic safety cabinets are part-recirculating laminar air flow enclosures with high efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filtration of exhaust air and an air barrier at the work opening. HEPA-filtered vertical laminar airflow which is recirculated in the work zone creates an ultra- clean work environment for product protection. An air barrier between the operator and the work zone is maintained by a flow of room air into a full width grille in the work opening. The barrier air mixes with the recirculated laminar flow air in a sump underneath the work surface and is exhausted from the cabinet via a HEPA filter which is located directly under the work tray. All positive pressure zones and filter seals are surrounded by negative pressure zones, so as to contain potentially hazardous aerosols.
Cabinets are available with the work zone width of 90cm, 120cm or 180cm and are free standing units that incorporate a floor stand. Standard cabinets have exhaust discharge on the right-hand side with optional left-hand side or top exhaust available. Top exhaust is typically specified where cabinet exhaust air is to be entrained into the room exhaust in accordance with AS2252.5. These cabinets provide advanced system monitoring technology and a number of unique design features intended to enhance safety and ease of use.
CONSTRUCTION
filter. A prefilter extends the life of the exhaust HEPA filter and protects it from mechanical damage during cleaning of the work zone.
CABINET Constructed in electro-galvanised steel with joints welded using a gas shielded arc process. This method produces a robust, leak free housing that is able to withstand the rigours of transport and handling. The exterior is finished in a high-quality powder coat which has been developed for laboratory equipment. WORK ZONE Constructed in grade 304 stainless steel with 2B finish. Corners are radiused and crevice- free for ease of cleaning and all surfaces are carefully dressed to remove sharp edges. The removable work tray is designed to allow cleaning access to its underside without removing it from the cabinet. A pneumatic mechanism opens and closes the viewing window without the need for external fasteners or catches. The window is self-supporting in the fully open position to facilitate cleaning and access for large items. Opening the window with the cabinet running automatically engages a boost mode for enhanced containment by activating a maximum exhaust airflow and the alarm systems. HEPA FILTERS Clyde Apac MicrosealTM HEPA filters, are manufactured to meet requirements of AS4260. Each filter is individually certified to be leak free in accordance with AS 1807.6. A manufacturer endorsed test label fitted with an extract of the test report is affixed to each
FANS Separate direct drive fans are provided for the exhaust and laminar flow HEPA filters. Fans are fitted with speed controllers to enable airflows to be maintained through filter life. The fan control circuits are interlocked so that the laminar flow system will not operate until the exhaust system has achieved a containment condition. Audible and visible alarms with rechargeable battery back-up signify any reduction in barrier containment or laminar airflow. ELECTRICAL Cabinets operate on single-phase 240V, 50 Hz power via a 10A outlet. The electrical system complies with Australian Standard AS3100. A low voltage touch control panel is located on the front of the cabinet. The Optima 2000TM microprocessor-controlled control and diagnostic system provides continuous monitoring of critical cabinet functions with a digital display indicating the nature of any malfunction.

High-efficiency filters and fans deliver quiet operation and safety. Negative pressure zones surround all positive pressure areas, eliminating the possibility of contaminated air bypassing the filter or escaping from the cabinet. In operation, vertical laminar airflow gently passes from the Laminar HEPA filter to the sump HEPA filter to create a biologically clean work area. In Cytotoxic cabinets: An air barrier across the work access opening, into the sump, reduces potential risks to personnel from airborne contaminants in the work zone. In Cytotoxic models, the airflows combine
in the sump area beneath the work floor and pass through an extra HEPA filter before recirculation via a return air plenum, to the top housing. Separate fan/filter arrangements allow independent adjustment to maintain an effective air barrier. A microprocessor is used to control the speed of the blower motors. This microprocessor also allows fingertip control of functions and status including: • Cabinet performance and status clearly displayed in plain English. • Boost mode. • Built-in stopwatch.

CREATING SAFER LABORATORIES
FC120P SERIES DIRECT DUCTED FUME CABINET
DESCRIPTION FC-120P Series cabinets have been developed to protect laboratory staff and the environment from toxic vapours, gases, fumes and particles. The cabinets are designed and manufactured to fully comply with Australian Standard AS2243: Fume Cabinets. The FC-120P cabinets are suitable for benchtop use and supplied with an acrylic work tray. When supplied without the work tray, the cabinet may be installed over a sink or an item of equipment. FC-120P cabinets can be supplied with a special trolley or stand which allows a separate trolley to be wheeled into the containment enclosure.
The mobility of trolley-mounted FC-120P cabinets is a significant advantage in hospitals or large research institutions, where materials such as glutaraldehyde are handled at multiple locations. These applications include endoscope sterilisation. The FC-120P cabinet has an inward air velocity that is maintained at > 0.5 m/s ±20% for both benchtop and trolley-mounted installations. In most applications, filtered exhaust air may be discharged to the room. In special cases, where the nature or concentration of the contaminant indicates, the cabinet exhaust may be connected to an exhaust fan/duct system that discharges to atmosphere. FC-120P cabinets are produced in two (2) sizes, with 900 or 1200 mm nominal work zone width.
FILTRATION
FC120-P SERIES This process extends filter life as the surface of the catalyst will not be covered by molecules trapped on it, thus enabling the process to be repeated. These filters will operate effectively in environments with temperature up to 70oC, and with relative humidity up to 80%. AES Environmental continues to push the design boundaries of its Direct Duct Fume Cabinet range; the FC-120P series has been developed for the safe containment of volatile compounds. The special P series features an explosion proof fan and can be configured with a dual bed of carbon or activated alumina to provide a wider range of contaminant removal. The P series is available in 1200mm and 1700mm widths to accommodate for the larger filtration surface area and specially selected fan and operating controls.
Air exhausted from the top of the cabinet is filtered by a one-stage filtration system. A prefilter protects the final filter system from particulates > 5μm. The final activated carbon filter incorporates carbon granules with a selected chemical impregnation to optimise the arrestance of specific vapours. Specific impregnations are available for the handling of a wide range of contaminants, including formaldehyde and glutaraldehyde, Alkaline odours, Ammonia and amines, Inorganic acids and acidic odours, H2S and mercaptans and HCN. Special adsorption filters are fitted for the capture of a wide range of vapours. Chemical impregnation of the carbon produces a chemical reaction similar to an oxidation process when the contaminant is adsorbed.

CREATING SAFER LABORATORIES
HWS & VWS SERIES II LAMINAR FLOW CABINETS
APPLICATIONS HWS (Horizontal-flow) & VWS (Vertical- flow) Series cabinets are designed to provide a high degree of protection for process products and apparatus in laboratory and production facilities. Many critical applications in the medical, pharmaceutical, scientific and electronics fields demand an ultra-clean work environment that is free from biological and particulate contamination. Typical applications include: • Aseptic dispensing, • Assembly of electronics and optics components, • Cell culturing, • Media pouring, • Preparation of medical devices and • Sterility testing. HWS & VWS Series cabinets are intended for work with non-hazardous materials in such applications. DESCRIPTION HWS & VWS Series cabinets are self-contained Class 3.5 horizontal (HWS) or vertical (VWS) laminar flow work stations designed for installation on standard laboratory benches, or on optional floor stands. Cabinets are available with nominal work zone width of 900mm 1200mm or 1800mm. Each cabinet is factory-tested and built to comply with the AES Environmental quality management system. These units can be certified on-site by a NATA-Accredited laboratory to establish compliance with the performance requirements of AS2252.6 - 2011.
HWS & VWS cabinets contain pre-filters and HEPA/Absolute filters, the design of the filtration system enables removal of airborne contamination from air passed through to the work area. The large filter face is matched to a plenum design that ensures a smooth laminar (unidirectional) flow of clean air through the work area and prevents entrainment of outside air. In HWS cabinets, air is passed through the work zone in a smooth, horizontal direction, the blower fan and mounting position are designed to maximize airflow. The deeper rear plenum ensures unobstructed airflow to the HEPA filter face. As a result, the cabinet is quieter with reduced vibration and longer service life for the HEPA filter. In VWS cabinets, a portion of the laminar flow air recirculates to the top plenum to give better airflow control and minimise turbulence in the work area. This also increases the HEPA filter service life. An optional application of sound-deadening coatings in the upper plenum areas of both cabinet styles minimises noise and vibration, this option is particularly useful if work is conducted in ultra-quiet environments.
CONSTRUCTION
The housing is constructed of locally sourced steel and consists of a high- quality powdercoated finish to provide a suitably solvent, alkali and acid resistant laboratory grade coating. The work area is fully constructed from stainless steel, with inward folds to avoid sharp edges. A removable, washable metal screen protects the HEPA filter from mechanical damage. A direct-drive fan is regulated by a speed controller to enable airflow to be maintained through filter life. Fans and filter plenums are designed to provide quiet operation and low vibration level. Clyde-Apac® Microseal™ HEPA filters, are certified for compliance to AS 4260. Each filter is individually certified to be leak-free in accordance with AS 1807.6. A manfufacturer endorsed test label fitted with an extract of the test report is affixed to each filter. A prefilter extends the life of the exhaust HEPA filter and protects it from the mechanical damage during cleaning of the work zone. An easily-accessed, washable pre-filter arrests not less than 90% of particles 5 micron and larger, thus prolonging HEPA filter life. A warning light in the control panel signals the need for pre-filter service. A low voltage touch control panel is located on the front of the cabinet. High-efficiency filters and fans deliver quiet operation and safety. Negative pressure zones surround all positive pressure areas, eliminating the possibility of contaminated air bypassing the filter or escaping from the cabinet. Outer shells are gas-tight for safe decontamination. In operation, vertical laminar airflow through a HEPA filter bathes the work tray, dividing and passing around the perimeter to create a biologically clean work area. In Class II & Cytotoxic cabinets: An air barrier across the work access opening, into the sump, reduces potential risks to personnel from airborne contaminants in the work zone. In Class II models, the airflows mix in the sump before recirculation via a return air plenum to the top housing. Exhaust air is passed through a HEPA filter for return to the laboratory.
In Cytotoxic models, the airflows combine in the sump area beneath the work floor and pass through an extra HEPA filter before recirculation via a return air plenum, to the top housing.

From years of experience in the design and manufacture of safety cabinets in Australia, the new generation Mk7 series cabinets have been designed with the end user in mind. Simple to operate and encompassing safety and reliability this stylish new cabinet is supported by our nationally focused spare parts and service divisions located in all major centres.
WARNING Email Class II biological safety cabinets comply with AS 2252.2 in all three vital areas: • cabinet design/construction • cabinet performance • air filter performance Some cabinets on the Australian market do not comply in all of these areas. A decision to use such equipment should be taken only after careful consideration of the risk posed by the materials to be handled and with the agreement of those who will operate the equipment. (see current and proposed Health and Safety Regulations).

CREATING SAFER LABORATORIES
RFC SERIES RECIRCULATING FUME CABINET
FILTRATION
Air exhausted from the top of the cabinet is filtered by a two-stage filtration system. This process extends filter life as the surface of the catalyst will not be covered by molecules trapped on it, thus enabling the process to be repeated. These filters will operate effectively in environments with temperature up to 70oC, and with relative humidity up to 80%.
DESCRIPTION RFC Series cabinets have been developed to protect laboratory staff and the environment from toxic vapours, gases, fumes and particles. The cabinets are designed and manufactured to fully comply with Australian Standard AS2243.9: Recirculating Fume Cabinets. The RFC cabinets are suitable for benchtop use and supplied with a stainless-steel work tray. When supplied without the work tray, the cabinet may be installed over a sink or an item of equipment. RFC cabinets can be supplied with a special trolley or stand which allows a separate trolley to be wheeled into the containment enclosure. The mobility of trolley-mounted RFC cabinets is a significant advantage in hospitals or large research institutions, where materials such as glutaraldehyde are handled at multiple locations. These applications include endoscope sterilisation. The RFC cabinet has an inward air velocity that is maintained at > 0.5 m/s ±20% for both benchtop and trolley-mounted installations. In most applications, filtered exhaust air may be discharged to the room. This avoids the air supply system problems that arise with ducted cabinets. In special cases, where the nature or concentration of the contaminant indicates, the cabinet exhaust may be connected to an exhaust fan/ duct system that discharges to atmosphere. RFC cabinets are produced in two (2) sizes, with 900 or 1200 mm nominal work zone width.
RFC-P SERIES
AES Environmental continues to push the design boundaries of its Recirculating Fume Cabinet range; the RFC-P series has been developed for the safe containment of volatile compounds. The special P series features an explosion proof fan and can be configured with a dual bed of carbon or activated alumina to provide a wider range of contaminant removal. The P series is available in 1200mm and 1700mm widths to accommodate for the larger filtration surface area and specially selected fan and operating controls.
CONSTUCTION
CABINET Outer casing of the RFC is constructed from galvanized steel, powder-coated to AS2700. The work zone is constructed in Grade 304 stainless steel. A removable aluminium screen is fitted in front of the prefilter at the rear of the work zone. FAN A direct drive motor/blower is regulated by a variable speed controller to enable airflows to be maintained through filter life.
ELECTRICAL Cabinets operate on single-phase 240V, 50 Hz power via a 10A outlet. A low voltage touch control panel with function status indicated by LEDs is located on the front of the cabinet. Glare-free fluorescent lamps provide a minimum lighting intensity of 800 lux at the work surface. ON-SITE TESTING Products produced by AES are factory- tested to ensure compliance and performance targets are met. Additional testing and certification is recommended as follows: - On-site prior to use - After any electrical of mechanical maintenance - After filter replacement - After re-location - At least annually - In special circumstances, e.g. if faulty operation is suspected. AES Environmental is a NATA registered laboratory that provides comprehensive on-site maintenance, testing and certification services of safety cabinets, laminar flow work stations, cleanrooms, operating theatres and HEPA filter installations.
PREFILTERS An easily-accessed, disposable polyester prefilter arrests not less than 90% of particulates > 5μm, thus prolonging carbon filter life. A warning light in the control panel signals the need for prefilter service.
